What is EMDR?
What is EMDR?
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy is an evidence-based treatment approach designed to help people heal from the emotional distress and symptoms associated with traumatic life events. It incorporates somatic, emotional, cognitive, and narrative elements, and it facilitates accelerated reduction of symptoms due to adverse experiences.
How EMDR Works
Eye Movement Densensitization and Reprocessing, or EMDR, employs a technique known as bilateral stimulation. This technique mimics rapid eye movement (REM) sleep and helps the brain to process and organize fragmented or overwhelming memories. The goal of EMDR is to replace painful emotions, physical tension, and negative self-beliefs with adaptive, positive perspectives.
